Venom in Vegas: Day 4

More Venomous Highlights: animal.discovery.com WATCH LIVE: animal.discovery.com Animal adventurer and venom expert Donald Schultz gives us a quick update on the filming of the Animal Planet special “Venom in Vegas” Donald will be doing more than simply existing alongside these dangerous snakes. Hell be working with them hands-on every day, extracting venom that will be shipped around the world so research for venom variation and potential pharmaceutical use can continue. And when hes not milking venomous snakes with his bare hands, hell be conducting cutting-edge tests to measure, for example, the potency of venom, the depth of fang penetration, and the strike range of the worlds fastest snakes, through the use of high-speed cameras. Usually what happens in Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas, said Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet Media. But were hoping this event will slither its way into the headlines. Our goal for VENOM IN VEGAS is to get the best marketing and press for these maligned and misunderstood reptiles, and to spotlight the kind of groundbreaking event television viewers can expect from the new Animal Planet. Every year, more than 100000 snake bite victims die because the antivenom that could save them isnt available or is in short supply, noted Schultz. Not only do I want to raise global awareness of the urgent need for anti-venom in developing countries, I want to push myself and test the boundaries of human/serpentine co

    @lizzle

SHUT Up you clearly don’t know your facts. Snakes do chew on things and i’ve knoe that since i was like 9 or 10. Before you comment try looking up the truth

  9. omonaija4life Says:

    Omg he’s such a hottie.
    I love u Donald.

  10. jfilla315 Says:

For the record if you take a snakes fangs out they have back ups that will always grow back. And by chew he means bite or teeth hung up on his shirt. You looked a little to far into that one. And yes there is such thing as a surgery to take out venom glands in a venomous snake BUT if you havent heard yet he has been bit and envenomated 3 times in the box and has cut the stunt short because hes lucky to still be alive. Dont say hes making shit up when he has to put things in simple terms for you!

  11. kingbigdawg9 Says:

so kool i was actually there while filming and when your there in person the snakes dont look all that active i think they feed them something to tricks for the cam

  12. Juggalo10p Says:

@christophermchale well i hate to tell you but IBD is a dieses that can be carried by all constricters not just boids

  13. ShaliGirlD Says:

they do to chew on things ive been around snakes for a long time and ive had alot of them chew on clothing fingers its actually quite adorable in my opinion

  14. megatron74 Says:

I think its amazing how well the different types of snakes are getting along. Probably its a good thing not to snake eaters such as kingsnakes and esp the king cobra

  15. ballpython110 Says:

they are either wild cought or captive bred animals none are venomoids (de-venomated) and BTW snakes DO chew on things i have had multiple animals chew on my finger/hand so if i were you lizzlefuzz i wud quit talkin shit OR hop in a glass box with that many snakes

  16. lizzlefuzz Says:

This is total BS. Those snakes are probably de-fanged or have no venom. BTW snakes don’t chew on things. He’s just making shit up to make it sound more dangerous. OMG rattle snake!

  17. Hollyclown Says:

im more worried about the snakes, what if they start attacking each other

  18. christophermchale Says:

    (shakes head)…

im sure that these snakes are from private collections and saying that it doesnt make them immune to carrying a disease.

all boas have IBD, but it is symptomless to them. but they can pass it on to non-boids and all cases are fatal.

either way this is really fucking stupid.

  19. punkXkiitie Says:

Those snakes probably were not just taken right out of the wild though, they were probably taken from zoos and anti-venom dealers, where those snakes are checked on weekly by specialist vets.

  20. sahne23011 Says:

hey he is so cool i wet to be with him !!!!

  21. christophermchale Says:

i am more concerned about the spread of diseases between snakes than i am of donalds safety. keeping boids in such a close proximity to other snakes can spread IBD which will be fatal. its scary that nobody had thought of that beforehand.

  22. KlipBourd99 Says:

    Animal planet fail

Desc:”Hell be working with them hands-on every day”

    No ‘ ? He’ll>Hell

  23. MegaManBn Says:

i might just run away instead of waiting there.

  24. gamehero77 Says:

i agree with cmdrkool321, its too much trouble for the snakes to go up on the desk, though the pit viper species there would be eying the thing

  25. TehPijltje Says:

A snake doesnt need food for like 2weeks if it had a good meal :D
