I Will Sing Unto The Lord (The Victory Song) – Jack Marti
Here’s another scripture song by my friend, Jennifer Jill Schwirzer. This one seems to be a favorite among young people, probably because of the liveliness of it. Almost all of my younger guitar students express a desire to learn it. It’s really not that hard, only three chords, but it’s obviously a good exercise in fast chord changes. It has a strong march rhythm, so is good for teaching rhythm as well. And I love the text! Do you want to be an overcomer? Memorize these verses! Oh, by the way, this song is taken from Exodus 15:1-5 & 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. I Will sing unto the Lord, For He hath triumphed gloriously: The horse and his rider Hath He thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength, My strength and song And He is become my salvation! Refrain: He is my God, And I will prepare Him An habitation; My father’s God, And I will exalt Him. The Lord is a Man of war: The LORD is His name. And I will exalt Him. The Lord is a Man of war: The Lord is His name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host Hath He cast into the sea: His chosen captains also Are drown in the red sea. The depths have covered them: Have covered them: they sank. They sank into the bottom as a stone. (refrain) For though we walk in the flesh, We do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare Are not carnal, But mighty through God To the pulling down of strongholds; To the pulling down of strongholds! (refrain) Casting down imagination, And every high thing That exalteth itself Against the knowledge …

Fair enough, the jury is still out in my mind in terms of rock music as a legitimate Christian genre. I have had extensive discussions via e-mail with Jennifer about it, and I will admit that I have had stronger views about it than I do now, but the fact remains, I have yet to hear anything from the metal genre that glorifies anyone but self. But I remain open on a case by case basis.

That being said, I agree with you about this guys’ language, and how it certainly does NOT say much for his walk with Christ.
Some of my favorite Scripture Songs of Jennifer’s – Revelation 15:3-4 from Grace to Grace. And I love “Where Was I?” from her powerful Chance of Rain album. She has given me permission to record a tribute album of her songs some time… “Great Clock of Time,” “Gethsemane Angel,” “Awake O Sword,” “The Stranger”… Still need to record my own…

As a Christian musician (SDA… and friend of Jennifer’s) who plays everything from Folk to Metal, I must disagree with your assessment. There are many Christian Metal bands doing all manner of selfless ministry for Christ and His Kingdom seeking to be faithful servants of God. I suspect pre-existing bias against Rock and Metal causes you to have this judgment. 20 years as an SDA, I’ve heard and seen a lot of misinformation and holier-than-thou prejudice against Rock and Metal. Time to wake up!

Thank you for your sharing of this video. As a fellow Christian and as a pastor I enjoy all songs which glorify our Lord and God.

First of all, my young friend, I’m not trying to impress anyone with my guitar playing skills. Secondly, for one who claims to be a member of “our religion,” you sure use a lot of profanity. Thirdly, I have yet to hear anything from the metal genre that glorifies anyone but self. Since I’m not into self-glorification, it’s not likely I’ll ever enter that arena.

You can get a copy from Jennifer herself at jenniferjill -dot-org. As far as I know she still doesn’t have it on CD, and the tape quality is rather poor, but I think you can still get it from her on cassette.
