Finding Livable Habitation

I would like to work in faro.Is it the same ,being english as it would be in albufeira.in.hotels ,bars etc?

I realise that albufeira has more tourist orientated jobs but faro sounds much nicer(correct me if im wrong).also are there as many appartments for sale in faro? thanks

Hi,
have you considered Lagos- you could probably still find a job there as it is popular with tourists but, in my opinion, it has a lot more charm and character than Albufeira and a good mix of Portuguese and ex-pats. I’d have to agree with some of the others about Faro- the historic centre is nice but the suburbs are a bit depressing. If you’re interested in working around Vilamoura, Quartiera or Almancil then you could either live there or in some nice villages nearby like Boliqueme.
Loulé is quite nice but not a great bet for English speaking jobs (although I worked there as a teacher) as there isn’t much tourist infrastructure.
If you contact me through my website http://www.portugal-sport-and-adventure.com/Portugal.html and let me know what type of work you’re looking for maybe I can keep an eye out for jobs for you.

Just returned back from Albufeira and had a day at Faro, personally, I think you would be better off in Albuferia as most places have posters up asking for help in restaurants/bars etc, trip to Faro was not good, there’s not alot there to do and it seemed quite dead to us, not many tourists at all and didn’t notice anyone advertising for any help there.

Faro is the airport city of the Algarve. The beaches are not that nice and are mainly visited by the locals. If you are looking for more of an administrative/ office type job then Faro is better as alot of the big companies have showrooms and offices there. There is lots of car showrooms etc there. Another big town local to Faro is Loule. All of the other smaller towns based along the coastline will probably have tourist related work.

Faro has a lot of jobs in restaurants and bars and all that because it’s the city who has the airport and the University of Algarve with all the students.
It’s a lot nicer than Albufeira and lovely also in the winter. I know, I worked there for several years.
You have lots and lots of apartments to choose and lots of prices, depending on what you like and the size of the apartment. Living near the Ria Formosa is great but has some more mosquitos in the sundown. :o )
