Cité Radieuse
The first and most famous of these buildings, also known as Cité Radieuse (radiant city) and, informally, as La Maison du Fada (French – Provençal, “The House of the Mad”), is located in Marseille, France, built 1947-1952. One of Le Corbusiers’s most famous works, it proved enormously influential and is often cited as the initial inspiration of the Brutalist architectural style and philosophy.
The Marseille building, developed with Corbusier’s designers Shadrach Woods and George Candilis, comprises 337 apartments arranged over twelve stories, all suspended on large piloti. The building also incorporates shops, sporting, medical and educational facilities, and a hotel. The flat roof is designed as a communal terrace with sculptural ventilation stacks, a running track, and a shallow paddling pool.
Inside, corridors run through the centre of the long axis of every third floor of the building, with each apartment lying on two levels, and stretching from one side of the building to the other, with a balcony. Unlike many of the inferior system-built blocks it inspired, which lack the original’s generous proportions, communal facilities and parkland setting, the Unité is popular with its residents and is now mainly occupied by middle-class professionals.
The building is constructed in béton brut (rough-cast concrete), as the hoped-for steel frame proved too expensive in light of post-War shortages.

Posted by admin in praia on 12 29th, 2009Hi am considering going to this hotel, i have looked at all the online reviews but just wondered if anyone on here has been to this hotel and if so what did you think?
I havn’t stayed at that hotel, but Alvor is one of the nicer resorts in Portugal. I have an apartment in Praia-Da-Luz, and we often go for a day out in Alvor. It’s lovely. I’ve just had a look on the website, It’s very expensive. My sister has a luxury apartment she rents out in Lagos, for £350-00 a week.I could have gotten you a nice cheap holoiday, if I’d known!!!!

Staying in Albufeira, Portugal for one week in early October – it it worth hiring a car?
Posted by admin in albufeira on 12 29th, 2009Or is everything fairly accessible on foot? We’ll be staying with a young child so won’t want to be out late or anything. And does anyone know what the weather’s likely to be like?
Thanks

I put in Hunter Green Carpet in my living room and bedrooms. What is a good accent color for curtains, etc.?
Posted by admin in green living on 12 29th, 2009I have maroon/hunter green drapes now, etc., and I’m sick of the color already. The walls are plain white and hubby doesn’t want anything permanent put up in case we decide to sell. What other colors can I use as far as paint, decor, etc. to down play all the green? My living room suit is a large sectional in a beige/black tweed. Any ideas?
A "Colonial Gold" and the always appropriate Navy Blue.
Maybe get a slipcover so hubby doesn’t have heart failure? Then you can use accent pillows to tie it all together. If they’re true draperies you can use those colors for tie backs or valances.
I have hunter green carpeting, a plaid davenport with green, maroon, navy and gold, dark green plantation shutters, a navy leather chair and a cream cloth arm chair with little medallions on it in, yes, dark green, navy, maroon and gold. My walls are cream and they’re staying that way. The only painting I MIGHT do is repaint the chair rail and the moulding – to match the carpet. Don’t make it TOO busy!
Good luck. The davenport kind of messes you up, hence the slipcover suggestion. You could get some nice, inexpensive pillows in the accent colors.

How can I locate a bee hive on our property?
Posted by admin in bee hive on 12 29th, 2009We have so many bees that are swarming around our yard when we try to have a barbecue that I no there must be a hive somewhere but I haven’t been able to locate it. How do I go about finding this hive so I can do something about it? My husband is very allergic to bees so we need to remove the hive as soon as possible.
Have a BBQ, and GET THE KIDS TO FOLLOW THE BEES, while you have a nice adult beverage. Kid that finds the hive, get’s $5.00. All kids participating get ice cream.
It also helps to know the kind bee,,,, as some species nest underground.
Not to discourage you to much, but the hive could be as far away as a mile or two. But let’s not think about that until the kid’s run out energy.
what type of degree for Habitation specialist l?
Posted by admin in habitation on 12 29th, 2009in the field of mental retardation ? What type of degree are best in the field ?
The laws are different and titles in all states. Check with the state department of MRDD or what ever it might be called in your area or the area you want to work and see what it recomends or requires. In some states I have worked in that field what you have listed if a direct care position that at most requires a GED. I would suggest you look at QMRP requirements for the state you want to work in and see if that is what you are looking for. QMRP is Qualified Mental Retardation Specialist, big shortage from what I understand.
Living Green Roof: Vancouver Convention Centre – BC, Canada
Posted by admin in green living on 12 28th, 2009
By borrowing from nature and maximizing science and technology, the Vancouver Convention Centre has assembled plant groups for its living roof. This innovative project brings in a new level of ecology and habitat to the urban landscape, and will fluctuate and change over time.
By connecting the interior design with the spectacular natural landscape of British Columbia, the Vancouver Convention Centre is one of the greenest convention centres in the world. It boasts a living roof, seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment, and fish habitat built into the foundation of the West Building. The space has been awarded the GO GREEN certificate from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) for industry-approved, environmental best practices in building management.
